Innovative physicians at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami recently used Google Cardboard VR to plan for a challenging cardiac operation. The immersive 3D imaging technology allowed doctors to visualize how to perform the successful surgery.
By viewing the VR images in Google Cardboard, lead surgeon Dr. Redmond Burke envisioned a new surgery to save the baby’s life. The night before Teegan’s surgery, Dr. Burke used the Google Cardboard 3D model to review the precise steps he would take in the operating room. The next day during surgery, the heart was exactly as he had seen in the model, allowing the operation to proceed as quickly as possible.
